It was *allmost* too perfect.
The work of photographers Vico Velez and Danin Jacquay reminds us of the darker side of striving for perfection; that the girlish dream of the perfect life in the dreamhouse cannot be achieved by humans without sacrificing the very thing that makes us human; our flaws.
Perfection can only exist within the frame, within the set. Makeup artists work their magic, the lighting is just so, the stains on the rug are strategically covered with glamorous, playful objects. The illusion is contained perfectly inside the image, but behind the scenes is so often all too lifelike. We sweat and scramble and play pretend to achieve the smooth, polished final product.
Thank you so much for joining us in the dreamhouse for this one-night-only extra extra extravaganza.
We wanted to transport you (the viewer) both into the frame, and behind the scenes. To play pretend with us the way the artists play pretend in their sets. We invited our guests to don their wigs and polish their noses; to come dressed as doll-like as they could muster. All of the sets were interactive, and our whole show was a photo set.
